New Penrose Website Launched

You’ve probably noticed some significant changes to Penrose Library’s online presence this Spring semester! We’ve developed a new website that offers improved navigation, news, featured items, and a look and feel consistent with the college’s web presence. We believe this new site is more intuitive, more accessible and more visually appealing than its precursor. At the same time, there is continuity; information and links from the previous website are still available. For those not yet ready to dive in, we’re maintaining a link to the previous website through mid-semester. We strongly believe our improved site will better connect you to the services and resources that will help you with your work. Check it out and let us know what you think!

Introducing a more user-friendly way to discover new materials!

Our New Materials page has been revamped! It now features books, films, journals, government documents, special collections materials, and honors theses. You can browse by subject, search by title and author, limit to print or online formats, and create lists for emailing. Seeking a user-friendly experience, the new interface presents available book jackets, record information, the availability status of each item, and Google Books previews. Items are displayed in the Library of Congress subject order and the list is updated during the first week of every month.

The Times of India (1838 – 2003)

Over the summer, we added some important new electronic resources to the Library’s collection. One of these is ProQuest Historical Newspapers: The Times of India with coverage from 1838 to 2003. Founded in 1838 to serve British residents of West India, it’s the world’s most widely circulated English daily newspaper. It serves those interested in studying colonialism and post-colonialism, British and world-history, class and gender issues, international relations, comparative religion, international economics, terrorism, and more.

The Times of India illuminates key historical events such as the Sepoy Mutiny; the formation of the Indian National Congress; and the rise of Gandhi’s civil disobedience movement. It captures the 1947 partitioning of India and Pakistan, the war over the Kashmir region, and the creation of Bangladesh. It reports on the assassinations of Indira and Rajiv Gandhi; the Bhopal industrial disaster; and the rise of Pakistan as a nuclear power. And, it provides coverage of sports, the Indian film industry, and other stories of everyday life. Click to access The Times of India.
